Small Groups are a vital part of St John’s Church enabling members of the congregation to get to know one another better, to care for one another and to discuss questions about sermons or other issues relating to the Christian faith. Most groups meet for about 2 hours once a fortnight, in various locations throughout the parish. Sessions include studying a passage from the Bible, occasionally discussing topical issues, sharing with one another and praying for specific needs of individuals, things happening in the life of the church and for the needs of the wider world. The groups are also a means of providing pastoral care to their members, supporting them in good and bad times and enjoying social activities together. In recent years, those who have attended an Alpha or a Start! course have wanted to continue meeting and learning more about the Christian faith, so new groups have been formed to specifically meet their needs. Specific groups for ladies, Meeting Point, and men, Bible and Beer, meet on a regular basis. If as a member of St. John’s who would like to join a small group please contact the co-ordinator via the Church Office.
